About Blue Tulip Co.
Plain words for ageing, dying, and grief.
Blue Tulip Co is for the hardest stretches of life — growing older, caring for someone who is dying, losing a person you love, and finding your way through grief. It’s a place to turn when you don’t know what to do next.
We believe no one should have to face those moments alone, or work them out from scratch at 2am. So we’ve put what you need in one calm place, in plain words: what to do, what to expect, who to call. Read what you need. Leave the rest.
Why we’re here
When someone dies, or is told they’re seriously ill, the people closest to them are suddenly expected to become experts overnight. Dozens of phone calls — to banks, insurers, government agencies, employers. Wills, probate, power of attorney. A funeral planned in shock. Children to hold steady while you can barely stand yourself. Aged care, palliative care, disability support — systems you’ve never had reason to understand before.
Every year, millions of people find themselves in this exact place: grieving and overwhelmed, searching for things they never imagined they’d need to know, with no one to tell them what comes next.
That’s the gap Blue Tulip Co exists to close — not with jargon or a help desk, but with a steady hand and clear, kind guidance. The thing so many people say they wished they’d had when it was their turn.
What you’ll find here
A library of plain-language guides covering ageing, dying, end-of-life care, planning ahead, money and legal matters, grief, and the practical steps after a death — written to be read on a hard day.
Della, a gentle guide to the library. Tell her what you’re facing in your own words and she’ll find the pages that fit. She doesn’t answer for herself — she takes you to what we’ve written, and to a real person, a helpline, when the moment calls for one.
Tools to record your wishes and keep your important information in one place, so the people you love aren’t left guessing.
Crisis and support lines, checked and ready, for the moments that can’t wait.
Blue Tulip Co covers Australia. Every service, helpline, agency and legal process listed here is Australian. If you’re outside Australia, these numbers and services won’t apply to you — please look for support where you live.
Services and rules change. Always confirm what’s current before relying on anything here.
About Della
What she does
Della reads what you type, matches it against every guide in the Blue Tulip Co library, and takes you to the ones that look closest. If the words don’t match anything, she’ll say so rather than guess.
What she isn’t
Not a person. Not a counsellor. Not a doctor. She doesn’t write answers of her own, doesn’t know anything outside our library, and can’t look anything up on the internet.
If you’re in crisis
Della is not a substitute for emergency help, and she knows it — say something that worries her and she’ll put the helplines in front of you straight away. If you’re in immediate danger, call 000. If you’re struggling, Lifeline 13 11 14 is open 24/7.
Privacy
Della runs entirely on your device. What you type never leaves your browser — it isn’t sent to us, isn’t stored on a server, and isn’t used to train anything. Close the tab and the conversation is gone.
What we believe
Help in these moments should be free. Grief is not a market. Blue Tulip Co is free to use — every guide, every checklist, every helpline, with nothing held back for anyone who pays.
We never sell your data. Your information is yours. We don’t monetise the worst day of someone’s life.
Plain words over jargon. If a sentence wouldn’t make sense to someone reading it through tears, we rewrite it.
You decide how much you want. Read one line, or one section, and close the page. There’s no pressure to do it all, or to do it in order.
Where we’re headed
In the near term, we want Blue Tulip Co to be the companion people reach for when someone they love is ageing, dying, or gone — the resource people tell a friend about because it was the one thing that actually helped.
Beyond that, we want to work alongside hospitals, palliative care services, and aged care providers, so that when a nurse says “there’s something that can help,” they mean this.
And in the long run, we hope to shift the culture, just a little: to make planning ahead as ordinary as taking out insurance, to make talking about death as natural as talking about life, and to make sure no one has to face their hardest moment on their own.
A few honest notes
We’re not a substitute for professional advice. Blue Tulip Co is general information, written with care — not medical, legal, financial or psychological advice. Always check anything important with the relevant professional or government service before acting on it.
Our content is being reviewed. The guides are written thoughtfully, and we’re having them checked by the right specialists — grief counsellors, palliative care clinicians, estate solicitors, financial counsellors, cultural advisors, and people with lived experience — so that what you read is both kind and correct.
We keep our helpline numbers current. Every number was verified when it was written. Numbers do change — if you ever find one that’s wrong, please tell us, and we’ll fix it straight away.
In an emergency, always call your local emergency number. If you’re struggling, please reach out to a crisis line near you — see the helplines page for what we have.
The caring starts here.
